Africa!! Whenever you hear the word, people always visualize the wilderness, tall Masais (east African tribe), and the African drums. Well, i grew up in Tanzania, an east African country, and didn't really live amidst the wilderness. I was raised in an orthodox indian home. My father changed his job once every 2 years. Living in new towns, cities, changing schools and making new friends gave me a glimpse of the country, but never the true feel of the country.
When i was 11, we moved to Arusha, the little town next to the famous Mt.Kilimanjaro. Mt.Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world. With it's beautiful golden colored snow capped mountain, i remember being drawn into its beauty. It was also the first time i ever saw snow in my life. So much of excitement. At school we learnt about the mountain, the geography of it, and yet the closest i could get to, was to the foothills and not it's dormant volcanic craters. The very next year in school, my class teacher Mr.Joshi announced that we will be climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro. We were to prepare for the trek by hiking long distances every weekend, until the actual trek. Well we hiked only for 2 weekends, but along with our enthusiasm this was more than enough to carry us all the way through.
Here's a trailer of the movie "Kilimanjaro: To the roof of Africa", it's a beautiful glimpse to something that took my breath away.
